2:00 pm- 4:00 pm President's Address- GCU 2017 & Beyond

Location: Casino Auditorium

Join Dr. Joseph R. Marbach as he outlines the vision for GCU’s growth and highlights key priorities for the future for the University community.

6:00 pm- 9:00 pm Alumni Weekend Kick-off

Location: Casino Ballroom
Cost: $5

Presented by the Class of 1977(40th Reunion). Join us for a casual gathering with fellow alumni as we welcome everyone back to campus. Enjoy light fare, refreshments, and laughs with new and old friends. Cash bar provided. Register by August 31st for a free adult beverage ticket.

6:30 pm Athletic Hall of Fame

Location: Lakewood Country Club
Cost: $50

Join us as we recognize Heather Walker Hastie '08, '10, Nancy Staudt Arvan '86, and Laurie Pells George '98 as they are inducted into the GCU Athletic Hall of Fame. All are welcome to buy a ticket and celebrate GCU athletics. Go Lions!

8:00 pm The Hypnosis Experience

Location: Casino Auditorium
Cost: $5

Eric Mina combines comedy, inspiration, and fun to create a once in a life time experience. In his show, you will witness live talent competitions, dance-offs, and hilarious hypnotism acts. You will be screaming with laughter as you are amazed and delivered a show you will be talking about for years.

10:00 pm Bash and Bonfire

Location: Casino Porch
Cost: Free

Presented by the Classes of 2007(10th Reunion) and 2012 (5thReunion). Kick off the weekendwith this casual party on the backporch of the casino and socialize with friends around the bonfire. A DJ will be playing your favorite tunes for you to dance the night away.

9:30 am Admissions Open House

Location: Various Campus Locations
Cost: Free

Alumni are invited to bring their college bound high school student to participate in the admissions Open House. Learn about our expanding academic programs through conversations with faculty. Meet those who lead the multiple service programs that support our students from day one to graduation and beyond. Engage with current Lions to hear about vibrant student life. Our admissions team will be here to help answer any questions about enrolling at GCU and since it’s Reunion & Homecoming Weekend, we are waving the application fee for everyone in attendance!

Continuing Education Unit Opportunities

Return to the classrooms where it all began to further develop your career! Featuring lectures taught by GCU’s most highly regarded faculty in the areas of education, social work and nursing. Each workshop includes professional development credit.

9:30 am - 11:00 am Education Workshop: Using Games to Enhance Teaching and Learning in K-12 Education

Location: Raymond Hall, RHC 101
Presenter: Nancy B. Sardone, Ph.D. 
Cost: $40 includes workshop and admission for one to the Reunion & Homecoming BBQ Lunch. Register early by August 31st and receive one free adult beverage ticket.
 

Description: Gaming has become a core activity with children and more teachers and afterschool instructors using games for learning than they did five years ago. Yet, they report that they learn about game titles and facilitation techniques through their own initiatives or from other teachers rather than from their teacher preparation program or professional development. This workshop will present numerous board and digital game titles at all grades and content areas and offer ideas for game facilitation. Play on! (Credit: 1.5) 

9:30 am - 11:00 am Social Work Workshop: What About Faith? Exploring the Role of Spirituality in Social Work

Location: TBD in Raymond Hall, RHC 201
Presenter: Megan Callahan Sherman, Ph.D., LCSW

Description: Social workers have the privilege of working with people of diverse backgrounds, and are committed to meeting the holistic needs of the individuals they serve. However, far too often in contemporary social work practice the role faith and spirituality have on personal development is overlooked. During this interactive workshop theories of faith development will be reviewed and the dynamics of interpersonal “meaning-making” will be discussed. Participants will develop techniques to assist in exploring their client’s personal belief systems in order to become a more effective and culturally competent practitioner. (Credit: 1.5) 

9:30 am - 11:00 am Nursing Workshop: Providing Appropriate End of Life Care to Patients with Advanced, Life Limiting Illnesses

Location: Raymond Hall, RHC 209
Presenter: Marianne M Holler, DO, FACOI

According the Institute of Medicine Report in 2015 “Dying in America” we are doing a poor job of helping patients and families acquire the most appropriate care at the end of life. During this workshop opportunities to develop skills to guide families and patients facing decisions for care at the end of life will be presented. In a case-based lecture format participants will be able to explore techniques to engage in difficult conversations surrounding facing end of life goals and choices. This course is targeted for nurses, social workers and chaplains. (Credit: 1.5)

11:00 am GCU-Hackensack Meridian Health School of Nursing 10 Year Anniversary Celebration

Location: Hamilton Hall
Cost: $30 includes celebration, lunch and one adult beverage ticket

Celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the GCU-Hackensack Meridian Health School of Nursing. Join current faculty and your fellow alumni for a tour of the new facilities then head over to the tent for the Reunion & Homecoming BBQ Lunch.

11:00 am - 2:30 pm Reunion & Homecoming Lunch

Location: Great Lawn (tent located adjacent to Casino)
Cost: $25

Gather with your fellow alumni, students and families to reminisce and enjoy a delicious lunch amongst our beautiful campus. Sit at a table reserved for your Reunion class (Class of 1967, Class of 1977, Class of 1992, Class of 2007 and Class of 2012) or affinity, or make new friends while listening to live entertainment. Cash bar available. Register early by August 31st for a free adult beverage ticket.

11:30 am Alumni Softball Game

Location: Softball Field
Cost: $25 includes game participant, admission for one at the Reunion & Homecoming BBQ Lunch. Register by August 31 for one free adult beverage ticket.

Participate in a matchup between alumni and current students.  Connect with softball alumni, parents, and friends and meet the current players and coaches. Dr. Joseph R. Marbach throws out the first pitch to kick off some friendly competition! Spectators are free.

1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Campus Tours

Location: Tours begin at the Casino
Cost: Free

Take a trip down memory lane with a campus tour led by a GCU tour guide and view the most recent additions to campus along with your old favorites.

 

12:00 pm EOF & TRIO Reunion

Location: Raymond Hall, North Dining Room
Cost: $10 for just the reunion gathering or $30 which includes celebration, admission for one at the Reunion & Homecoming BBQ Lunch. Register by August 31 for one free adult beverage ticket.

Gather under the tent at your reserved tables for the Reunion & Homecoming BBQ lunch, then head over to the North Dining Room to enjoy a private celebration and panel discussion between current students and your fellow alumni.

2:00 pm Biology and Chemistry Reunion

Location: Jeffries Hall
Cost: $10 for just the reunion gathering or $30 which includes celebration, admission for one at the Reunion & Homecoming BBQ Lunch. Register by August 31 for one free adult beverage ticket.

Join us at 12:30 under the tent for the BBQ lunch, then head to Jeffries Hall for special ribbon cuttings of the recently updated science labs with some of your favorite faculty and friends.

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm Family Fun Carnival

Location: Italian Gardens
Cost: Free carnival, food trucks vary

Presented by the Class of 1992. Games, rides and attractions for all. Various food trucks will offer a variety of sweets and treats.

3:30 pm Men’s Soccer vs. Bloomfield College

Location: Turf Field
Cost: Free
 

6:00 pm Class of 1967-50th Anniversary President’s Celebration

Location: The Mansion
Cost: Free for the Class of 1967, $35 for guests.

Begin the evening with a prayer service. Directly following, join President Joseph R. Marbach, Ph.D., for dinner and the induction of the Class of 1967 to the Golden Lion Society. All classes pre 1967 are invited to this induction celebration and will participate in the pinning ceremony.

6:00 pm Dinner and a Movie

Location: North Dining Room
Cost: $15 includes dinner, movie and snacks

Relive your college days with a night on campus. Start the night with a buffet dinner then enjoy a movie (or two) with old and new friends. Movie viewings will be at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

8:00 pm Nick Cannon and Friends Reunion & Homecoming Comedy Showcase

Location: The Strand Theater, Lakewood
Cost: $45-$55

Join us for a star-studded comedy showcase featuring Nick Cannon and Friends. Tickets are selling quickly so please visit alumni.georgian.edu while they last.
