Data Breach

Georgian Court University was notified by one of our third-party vendors, Blackbaud, a cloud software company, that in May, 2020 it had been the target of a ransomware attack.

Blackbaud is a long-time vendor partner and one of the world’s largest providers of education administration, fundraising, and financial management software for non-profits in the education and healthcare industries. Georgian Court University was one of hundreds of non-profit organizations served by Blackbaud that were impacted by this ransomware attack. The hacker was able to access a subset of Blackbaud’s data, which included some of Georgian Court University’s information. Blackbaud paid the cybercriminal’s demand with confirmation that the copy it removed had been destroyed. Based on the nature of the incident, Blackbaud’s research, and third party (including law enforcement) investigation, Blackbaud has no reason to believe that any data went beyond the cybercriminal, was or will be misused; or will be disseminated or otherwise made available publicly.  For additional information about this incident, please visit Blackbaud’s website at https://www.blackbaud.com/securityincident.

IMPORTANT: No credit card information, bank account information or social security numbers were obtained as a result of this incident. This data is encrypted.

Upon learning of this incident, Georgian Court University immediately began an investigation to understand what data had been compromised, and we will continue to take all appropriate action with respect to this incident.

There is no need for you to take any action at this time. However, as with most cyberattacks there may be a slight risk to the data involved. As a best practice, please remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity or suspected identity theft to the proper authorities. If you have any immediate questions or concerns, please call us at 732-987-2454 or email us at alumni@georgian.edu.
